The funnel is an instrument or device to narrow the passage of liquids or powders from a wider container to a narrower one. That is what God is doing here in Genesis 10. Sem, Noah’s eldest son, is mentioned because God is reducing the flow of sacred history in the Semitic races and Shem is the narrow part of the funnel. God is limiting the flow of humanity with which he will deal personally and directly until he reaches a family group, the family of Shem. In chapter 11, continue with this until you reduce it to one man, Abraham. From there it begins to expand to include Abraham and all his descendants, both physically and spiritually. The rest of the Bible has to do with the children of Abraham in both senses, physical and spiritual.

Why does God do this? He has been accused of showing favoritism in terms of choosing the people of Israel for His link with humanity, but that is not so, because God does not respect people. This is something he does because it is necessary in view of the limitations of our minds, not of His. There is not a single person who can understand the whole and varied world of humanity; this is something that we can not achieve even today. When the time comes for elections, we participate in voting to determine what people are thinking, because we can not understand or assimilate in any way what is thinking a mass of people, so it is necessary to use samples. This is what God is doing with Israel, which becomes a sample of people. Throughout the rest of the Bible, what is true about Israel is true of the whole world, and its history is our history. Their stubborn rebellion is the same rebellion that we manifest, and their spiritual blessing under God is the same kind that we can expect if we are open to respond to the grace of God. There is a fact that stands out in what would otherwise be simply an insipid genealogy: that God is in some way seeking to enter our hearts and our will. He emphasizes us through great historical traces and through the minor incidents that happen to each one of us. and his spiritual blessing under God is the same kind that we can expect if we are open to respond to the grace of God. The big question that needs to be asked is: “Are you listening? Are you receiving the message that God wants you to receive? ” He writes it with large characters in the landscape of history, and he also writes it with smaller characters in the incidents of our daily life. But in each case it is the same truth that is evident in us: the fact that God is essential for us and we can not live without Him. You can not fulfill yourself; you can not find yourself without Him. He loves you and is looking for you; He loves you and is attracting Himself.

Father, I thank you for Your love, demonstrated throughout the generations of people and kingdoms that have appeared and then disappeared, but now it has been revealed by sending Your only begotten Son.

Application to life
The Bible has to do with the nation of Israel as a sign of human history. Are we willing to learn from these generational lessons and to respond to God who is looking for us?
