Text: Judges 6:33-40

33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.

34 But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abi–ezer was gathered after him.

35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.

36 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.

38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.

40 And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.

MESSAGE:
Kenneth E. Hagin said, “Doubt is from the devil. You have to resist doubts and rebuke them. You have to get your mind on the answer – on God’s Word. In order to receive answers to your prayers, you must eradicate every image, suggestion, vision, dream, impression, feeling and all thoughts that do not contribute to your faith and that do not affirm that you have what you have asked God…” As God’s children, we have the duty to trust Him and believe His word. Any other alternative is dangerous for our survival.

In our passage today, the children of Israel were faced with a great challenge from the Midianites. God had sent His angel to Gideon to prepare him for the leadership of the nation in this critical time but the man was beating about the bush. The angel of God kept reassuring him and working on his weak will. Eventually, he felt he could push back at God. He thought of the fleece option as a means to excuse himself from the task.

God obliged him his request to make the land wet but the fleece dry and vice versa. He went all out to encourage Gideon because He knew he was afraid of doing the right thing.

Many people today are like Gideon. They are afraid of doing the perfect will of God for a myriad of reasons. His excuse was his humble birth and the might of the Midianites. What is yours? Believers are called out from this sinful, polluted and evil world into a life of prompt obedience to God in living right and preaching the gospel.

No excuse is tenable before the Lord for failure to heed His call. And just like He did to get Gideon going, He will help and give you all that you need to walk in obedience to His will today. He has promised that He will never leave nor forsake you as you walk in the path of obedience.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Faith is stronger than fear.
