MESSAGE:

Many years ago, the steamer “Portland”, left harbour indicating a stormy weather. The port agents advised all vessels not to sail out. But the captain of the “Portland” did not take heed. He told the keeper of the lighthouse to keep the light brightly burning that night. But just outside the harbour, the vessel was brought down by a mighty storm and no one on board ever came back. The captain ignored the clear warning.

In our text today, God determined to deliver the nation of Israel, pronounced the plague of hail and graciously advised Pharaoh and his people to send for their servants and cattle out of the field so that they might be sheltered. Pharaoh and many of his people despised God’s word and paid dearly for it. Only those among his servants that hearkened to the warning escaped God’s judgment.

God’s order must be obeyed if we are to stay safe. Anything short of this is a disaster waiting to happen, because delayed and partial obedience are twin brothers of disobedience with dire consequences. Saul’s attitude to the command of wipe out the Amalekites completely cost him the throne. God demands outright, prompt and total obedience from us.

There are people who run from one mountain, prayer house and miracle service to another while they are walking in clear disobedience to God’s instructions. There is no prayer or anointing that can cancel divine laws because God prefers obedience to sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22).

Our response to God’s warning will determine our destiny. Unfortunately, many despise God’s warning to their own peril. Why not cast away pride and self-conceit and run to the Lord in simple faith and obedience.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Wholehearted obedience to God eminently brings forth His blessings.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Luke 7-8
