MESSAGE:

Testing his heir-apparent’s wisdom to manage his estate after his demise, a rich man told his son to choose one title-deeds to his estate and his chief servant who was the custodian of the keys and title-deeds of his entire estate with a promise of his son’s absolute ownership and authority over his choice. However, his son demonstrated wisdom by choosing his father’s chief servant, having reasoned that the owner of the chief servant is indisputably the owner of the keys and title-deeds in his custody.

The text enumerates explicitly a host of blessings as the heritage of anyone that fears the Lord. These include fame, wealth and righteousness and hospitality.

Therefore, the fear of the Lord is defined scripturally as the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. It is clear in the text that the fear of the Lord is the key that opens heaven’s door to His unlimited heritage for the righteous. Though God’s promise of His inexhaustible blessings is open to the whole world, in verse one of the text, only the wise who chooses the fear of the Lord shall inherit them.

The fear of the Lord connotes hearing, believing and obeying His word wholeheartedly at all times. It entails serving Him unconditionally in holiness daily in expectation of the rapture. For the wise, the transient opulence, glamour and encomiums of this contemporary evil world are too trivial to despise the beatitudes and eternal bliss in heaven. Therefore, it is quite expedient that sinners and backsliders will ply the path of wisdom by repenting promptly and avoiding the divine verdict on the wicked pronounced in the concluding verse of our text. Only the wise is blessed and he alone shall inherit God’s unlimited and unending heritage.

Thought For The Day: Taking heed to God’s word is the road to His promised heritage.
