MESSAGE:

When God is about to call a person to the discharge of a special duty, He often, in a special manner prepares him. Paul was converted on the way to Damascus when he was blinded by divine glory that shone from above. When Ananias was called to find him, he was told: “…behold, he prayeth” (Acts 9:10,11). How badly he needed that to be able to fulfil the ministry he was about to receive from the Lord.

In our text, the Lord was about to open a great door for the Gentiles to come into the Kingdom through the hearing of the gospel. Having decided to use Apostle Peter, the Spirit nudged him to retreat to a secluded roof top to pray. Peter obeyed, not knowing that some gentle enquirers were coming their way. It was necessary for him to pray in this manner as directed by the Spirit so that his witness and preaching might be under the fresh influence and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

If we must be useful in the Kingdom, we must always heed His calls to Christian separation and prayer. God cannot accomplish much with us if we are not totally dependent upon Him in constant prayer and intercession. Though David said: “Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray…” (Psalm 55:17), God’s call to prayer or intercession can come any time in between. We are to be sensitive to the nudging of the Holy Spirit and yield our lives and time to labour in prayers for the never dying souls of sinners around us. Pray that God will find you dependable in this regard.
