MESSAGE:

Abraham Lincoln, one time president of the United States of America made an historic speech on the 11th of February 1861 in Springfield Illinois, where he said: “Unless the great God who assisted President George Washington shall be with me and aid me, I must fail; but if the same omniscient mind and mighty arm that directed and protected him shall guide and support me, I shall not fail, I will succeed. Let us pray that the God of our fathers may not forsake us now”.

The historic legacies of these great men who made indelible impacts in the shaping of present-day America into greatness from the basis of our meditation in today’s passage. Athaliah was overthrown and the rightful king was installed. The king and the nation needed to return to the Lord and so Jehoiada the priest constrained the new king and the people to make a covenant with the Lord to be His people.

When a nation and her people go against the commandments of the Lord, there is disaster and evil multiplies. Many people and nations of the world today have departed from the rules of order and right which God ordained. There is so much injustice and cruelty in the world. Although the Scripture enjoins us to forgive those who offends us, it should not lead us to compromise and go against God’s plan and purpose. We should have the mind of Christ and frown at sin, rebellion, corruption and idolatry. Be patriotic like Jehoiada and make efforts to reconcile people in your nation to Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Sadly, not everybody knows that Christ died for them. We must therefore tell them that only Christ is qualified to be our King because He made the greatest sacrifice by giving Himself a ransom for us. Christ is the Redeemer and will remain the Redeemer until the end of the world. His sacrifice is still efficacious because “whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21).

Thought For The Day: Enthrone King Jesus in the lives of many today.

The Bible In One Year: 2 Samuel 15-16
